With the news that Fox29 does not plan to employ a fulltime sportscaster when Joe Staszak’s contract exprires in August, do you think it will start a precdent?
Here’s the local broadcast sports scorecard:
Fox29 - Let veteran sportscasters Don Tollefson and Bill Vargus go; utilize news anchor John Anderson for sports programming, as well as radio guys Anthony Gargano and Hugh Douglas; also throw sports producer Tom Schredensek on the air.
CBS3 - Beasley Reece has been the sports director since 1998; weekend guy Don Bell departed for ESPN last month; use news reporter Jamie Smith in sports role from time to time.
NBC10 - The most stable broadcast station for sports with sports director Vai Sikahema (since 1994) and John Clark (2001). Evidently not replacing Jade McCarthy, who left the station months ago.
6ABC - Suffered the death of longtime sports director Gary Papa in June of 2009; no official replacement named, Jamie Apody and Keith Russell are a little ahead of Jeff Skversky.
