Power out in Nazareth, Wind Gap areas after reported explosion at substation

Power was cut in parts of the Nazareth and Wind Gap areas after an explosion was reported at a utility substation off Sullivan Trail in Plainfield Township, according to emergency scanner reports.

It happened at about 11:15 this morning.

Police were called to direct traffic at Route 512 and Bushkill Center Road, where a traffic light was out, as well as in Wind Gap Borough.

Power was cut in parts of Nazareth Borough and at Shafer Elementary School.

A representative of Metropolitan Edison Co., the power company, was not immediately available for details on the mishap.
