PBS39 Kicks Off 40th Season of ScholasticScrimmage

Bethlehem, PA -- (October 24, 2013) – For 40 years, PBS39 has been producing the Lehigh Valley’s high school quiz show, Scholastic Scrimmage. The new season premieres Friday, October 25 at 3:00pm with a competition between Easton High School and Freedom High School. Episodes repeat Saturdays at 10 a.m., Sundays at 11 a.m., and Mondays at 5:30 p.m.
Scholastic Scrimmage host Dr. Karen Walton, Provost at DeSales University, quizzes top students in subjects like math, science, English, history, and the arts. Sally Campbell, retired English teacher, and Dr. Gary DeLeo, Physics Professor at Lehigh University, serve as judges for each Scholastic Scrimmage bout.
“It’s wonderful to be able to provide an educational experience in an exciting environment,” says Tim Fallon, PBS39 CEO. “This kind of show really embodies the mission of PBS39, which is to educate, inspire, inform and entertain.”
Participating schools include: Allentown Central Catholic, Bangor, Bethlehem Catholic, Catasauqua, Devon Preparatory, Dieruff, Easton, Emmaus, Freedom, Jim Thorpe, Lehigh Valley Performing Arts, Lehighton, Liberty, Marian Catholic, Moravian, Northampton, Northern Lehigh, Northwestern Lehigh, Notre Dame, Palmerton, Panther Valley, Parkland, Pen Argyl, Pius X, Salisbury, Southern Lehigh, Stroudsburg, Saucon Valley, Whitehall, William Allen and Wilson.
At the end of the Scholastic Scrimmage season, the winning team is awarded $4,000 for its scholarship fund, with the runner-up receiving $2,000. The winning team also receives medals, a plaque for their high school’s trophy case, and the bragging rights of being the very “best and brightest” in the region.
