FROM KEITH GROLLER
As expected, Parkland and Central Catholic, the top two seeds, advanced with wins on Tuesday night in the quarterfinals of the Stellar Summer High School Boys Basketball League playoff tournament at Cedar Beach.
However, neither the Trojans nor Vikings rolled to easy wins. No. 2 seed Parkland beat No. 7 seed Bethlehem Catholic 50-40 and No. 1 Central Catholic held off No. 8 Freedom 55-52.
No. 6 Liberty, which was probably favored despite being the lower seed, clamped down on No. 3 Nazareth 42-29 and No. 4 Dieruff surprised No. 5 Allen 49-42.
That means that Wednesday night's semis will have Central Catholic and Liberty meeting at 6:15 and Parkland and Dieruff tangling at 7:15.
The winners return to Cedar Beach for the championship game on Thursday night.
Dieruff is the defending league champ, having beaten CCHS in last August's final.
