FROM KEITH GROLLER
The honor that Andre Reed and his entire family wants is the one that comes with a certain ceremony in Canton.
But in the meantime, the honors keep rolling in for Reed, who will have his name attached to one of the top honors in NCAA Division II football.
Reed, who, of course, used Kutztown University as a launching pad to his storied NFL career, will have his name on an award to be presented to the top Division II receiver in the country.
Reed played at Kutztown from 1982-84 and has been named to several halls of fame including Kutztown's, the Lehigh Valley Chapter of the National Football Foundation, the Greater Buffalo Hall of Fame and the NCAA Division II Hall of Fame in 2002.
He is a seven-time finalist to the Pro Football Hall of Fame and there's again optimism that the call to Canton will come next year.
Andre is seen in the photo below during a recent stop at the Allentown Boys and Girls Club.
Here are the details from a Kutztown release:
Kutztown Athletics Hall of Famer Andre Reed will be honored with the nationally-recognized Andre Reed Trophy, which will honor the Division II Receiver of the Year as selected by the USA Football Network.
The trophy will be awarded annually to the outstanding Division II wide receiver selected by a national panel that includes Andre Reed, the Sports Information Director of Kutztown, the Commissioner of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC), six members of the national broadcast and print media as well as the President of USA College Football, Inc. The recipient will be honored at the College Football Division Awards Banquet.
