ALLENTOWN PUBLIC LIBRARY, 1210 Hamilton St., begin Summer Reading sign-ups Tuesday, May 28. Children read books and record the titles in reading logs to earn prizes, starting June 3. Children who can't read may join the Read-To-Me club and have a family member read to them. Info: 610-820-2400.
LEHIGH COUNTY AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY search has started for the 2013 Great Allentown Fair Queen to represent the fair's mission during the event to be held August 27-September 2. Young women, ages 16-20, from Lehigh, Northampton and Berks counties that demonstrate enthusiasm for the Allentown Fair, local farming and the agricultural industry will qualify. Contestants judged on a written essay, personal interview with the panel and an on-stage introduction and speech presentation on the topic "Why You Should Come to the Great Allentown Fair?" A $1,000 scholarship from the Lehigh-Northampton Pomona Grange #68 will be awarded and the winner will promote the fair at events and speaking engagements throughout the community. She will also compete at the Pennsylvania State Fair Queen competition in Hershey, a position that involves visiting fairs throughout the Commonwealth during 2014. Registration deadline: June 14.
