Friday night boys basketball scoreboard; Saturday predictions

http://blogs.mcall.com/groller/ FROM KEITH GROLLER Not a lot of surprises on Friday night in area basketball with the possible exception of Dieruff''s win over Nazareth. Coming off their title in the summer league, the Huskies had to be considered a bit of a disappointment through the first month of the season. But if they were ever going to get it turned around, it had to start with a win over Nazareth and the Huskies got it done. Here are all of Friday's scores: ES South 51, Lehighton 49 -- Last week at the Slatington tournament, Lehighton Rich Oertner talked about his team's inability to finish games. It happened again here as the Indians squandered an eight-point lead entering the fourth quarter and fell in overtime. Pocono Mt. West 59, Pleasant Valley 42 - Panthers definitely go to the basket as 32 foul shots attest. Need to make more than 15 however. East Stroudsburg North 50, Poc. Mt. East 27 -- A little surprised by the assigning of officials this year. A little surprised that Andy Donatelli and Rod Strobl II, two of the area's best, worked this game on Friday. A game's a game, I guess, but I thought I might see those two doing Easton-Parkland. Liberty 51, Whitehall 35 -- At least Hurricanes assistant coach Jerry Radocha got to see his son, Brett, play and score three points. Dieruff 38, Nazareth 34 -- Huskies get first LVC win behind 14 by Matt Riddick. Emmaus 59, Northampton 47 -- K-Kids hit for 8 3-pointers in the defeat. Allen 56, Becahi 41 -- 12-for-22 effort at the foul line didn't help Golden Hawks' chances here. Parkland 43, Easton 40 -- People will see this score and think that both teams held the ball. Not really, although Red Rovers tried to control tempo. Reason for low score was 54 missed shots from the field. Notre Dame 77, Catty 70 -- Pat Boyle was wondering where his offense was on Thursday night. He found it in a 29-point fourth quarter on Friday night. Saturday's predictions: Just the winners: Allen over Stroudsburg. Dieruff over ES North Phillipsburg over Northampton Becahi over Warren Hills Blue Mountain over Pleasant Valley Salisbury over Bangor Southern Lehigh over Pen Argyl Saucon Valley over Palmerton Northern Lehigh over Palisades Wilson over Northwestern North Hunterdon over Notre Dame.
