Pen Argyl senior Deleila Schriner outduled Pine Grove ace Ethel Santai and the Green Knights made the most of two early runs to post a 2-1 victory for the District 11 2A championship on Thursday night at Patest Park.
Pen Argyl, which beat three Schuylkill League teams all by scores of 2-1, won its first title since 2008 and just its second overall.
Pen Argyl will play Elk Lake, a 2-1 winner over Nanticoke for the District 2 title, on Monday at a site in District 2 in the opening round of the state tournament.
The Green Knights (17-7) took advantage of three Pine Grove errors to get a run in the first and added a run on Schriner's RBI double with two out in the third.
Pine Grove took advantage of a Pen Argyl misplay to get on the board in the fifth and had a chance to tie the game in the bottom of the seventh when Toni Dissinger led off with a double and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt.
But Dissinger stayed there as Schriner got Keandra Koons on a popup to second and Courtney Brown on a tapper back to the pitching circle.
Schriner had two of Pen Argyl's five hits and Taylor Presby scored both Pen Argyl runs.
Schriner had just two strikeouts and walked none.
Santai struck out 12, walked one and hit one.
The Cardinals, two-time defending district champs, finished 17-2.
