The semifinals are over at the PIAA 2A Southeast Regional, and six Bethlehem Catholic wrestlers are still alive for gold medals at Wilson West Lawn.

FROM THE MORNING CALL

The semifinals are over at the PIAA 2A Southeast Regional, and six Bethlehem Catholic wrestlers are still alive for gold medals at Wilson West Lawn.

Darian Cruz (103 pounds), Zeke Moisey (112), Randy Cruz (119), Jaydon Rice (125), Ryan Todora (140) and Elliot Riddick (160) are in the finals, which start at 5 p.m.

Meanwhile, Kyle Dehaut, Bethlehem Catholic's returning state runner-up, keeps flirting with cement-job disaster.

Friday night, in his first elimination bout after getting pinned by Newport's Bryce Mullen in the first round at 152, he pulled out a 5-3 decision over Lehighton's Mitchell Moyer. This, after a failed cement job landed him on his back for one full mississippi. But the referee wasn't in position to call it, and Dehaut was out of trouble, doing just enough to win.

Today, in his second consolation match, he trailed Fairfield's Kyle Flohr 6-0 and was on his back when he hit a cement job that stuck Floh for a dramatic pin in 2:45.

Dehaut then won a 2-1 decision to clinch a state berth and advance to the third-place bout against Northwestern's Bobby Clymer, who pinned him in the district championship match seven days ago.

On the other side of the spectrum, junior teammate Riddick seems to have captured whatever edge Dehaut appears to have lost. Riddick earned his first state berth with a 15-6 major decision over Tyler Fitzkee of Bermudian Springs in the semifinals at 160. That comes on the heels of a 17-5 major over John Riddle of Boiling Springs in the quarterfinals.

Another noteworthy item: In the 215-pound semifinals, Tamaqua's Garth Lakitsky was forced to go the distance for the first time this season. He did win, though, 8-5, over Matthew Wolf of Bermudian Springs.

Three of tonight's regional final bouts will be District 11 championship rematches from the week before -- Rice vs. Northern Lehigh's Zane Heller at 125, Pen Argyl's Luciano Burriesci vs. Todora at 140 and Pen Argyl's Dylan Evans vs. Saucon Valley's Ian Gimbar at 189.

Finally, a note on Northern Lehigh 171-pounder Colin Hedash, who was in such a rush to find a toilet after his 5-1 quarterfinal decision over Pequea Valley's Mitchell Ball on Friday night that he couldn't even stop to sign his bout sheet, much less grant an immediate interview. That proves once again that you can't be No. 1 before you take care of No. 2.

Hedash won his semifinal this morning, pinning Wyomissing's Julio Arredondo in 1:50. Trinity's Adam Geiger will be his finals opponent.
