FROM THE EXPRESS TIMES
This was not the way Lafayette College wanted to open the football season.
Despite running up huge advantages in yards (509-265), time of possession (40:13 to 19:47) and first downs (31-13) the Leopards were stunned by Georgetown, 28-24, in front of 7,673 fans at Fisher Stadium.
The Hoyas (2-0, 1-0) snapped a 12-game Patriot League losing streak with the win.
Lafayette quarterback Ryan O'Neil threw for 304 yards and two touchdowns but was intercepted twice and left the field with a leg injury on the Leopards' final drive.
Lafayette reached the Hoyas' 23 yard line with a minute to go, but Jayah Kaisamba intercepted backup quarterback Marc Quilling at the 3 to clinch the win.
Lafayette missed a field goal with 13:04 left in the game that would have allowed a field goal try to win the game later. Mistakes in the kicking game also led directly to one Hoya touchdown.
Leopard senior receiver Mark Layton set a career high with 11 catches (for 92 yards).
