FROM KEITH GROLLER
Lehigh's senior cornerback Jarard Cribbs has been saluted as the Patriot League defensive player of the week, an award largely based on his two interceptions in the second half of Saturday's 35-22 win over Princeton.
His first came with the Mountain Hawks leading, 17-16, in the third quarter and was returned 27 yards to the Princeton 15 to set up a field goal. With the Mountain Hawks holding on 27-22 lead in the fourth quarter, Cribbs picked off a pass at the Lehigh 45 to set up the game-clinching touchdown. He also recorded seven tackles in the game, including six solo stops. Cribbs leads the Patriot League with three interceptions this season, and has eight for his career.
This is his first defensive player of the week award to go with two career special teams honors. Cribbs has lived in a variety of locations before coming to Lehigh. But played his high school ball in Waldorf, Maryland.
In addition to Cribbs, Lehigh tight end Alex Wojdowski was a Patriot League honorable mention choice on the weekly awards list. The senior had a pair of fourth-quarter touchdown receptions and made four catches for 79 yards overall against Princeton.
Lehigh plays at New Hampshire at noon on Saturday. The Wildcats, upset by Rhode Island last week, dropped from No. 8 to No. 16 in the latest The Sports Network/Fathead.com FCS Top 25.
