MEDIA BLASTS COMCAST

Willow Grove resident, Brad Bierman considers himself a sports fan who lives in Philadelphia, rather than a Philadelphia sports fan.

That’s why for the last 13 years, Bierman has been furious at Comcast for not allowing satellite companies to broadcast Comcast SportsNet in Philadelphia. Because of that, Bierman must subscribe to Comcast cable to get the Phillies, Sixers, and Flyers games, as well as Direct TV for the NFL Ticket package.

“I am sick of Comcast telling me how to watch television,” said the media consultant and former television sportscaster.

Bierman hopes that the recent FCC ruling that Comcast must allow satellite companies in Philly to air Comcast SportsNet will actually come to fruition.

“I am hopeful, but skeptical,” said the Syracuse University graduate, who went to the same school as Philadelphia broadcasters, Michael Barkann, Jim Jackson, Tracy Davidson, and Kathy Orr.

Bierman doesn’t agree with the argument that Comcast doesn’t have to let satellite air CSN because the popular NFL Sunday Ticket is only on Direct TV.

“They are two separate issues. A few years ago, Direct TV outbid Comcast for the rights to The NFL Ticket.”

Bierman wondered if the Comcast-NBC deal goes through, if it will withhold NBC from non-Comcast entities.
