Dieruff boys happy to get to Sunday in the Stellar tournament

It is highly unlikely that Dieruff will be playing in the championship game of the 19th annual Stellar Construction "Catch A Rising Star" Showcase at Cedar Beach on Sunday night, but it was a most satisfying Saturday for the Huskies and new head coach Joe Jarjous.
Dieruff stayed alive with three wins, beating Warwick 41-39, Monsignor Bonner 42-37 and Washington, N.J., 40-35.
The Huskies lost to Ridley 47-28 in their opener on Thursday night, but still have made a decent showing entering Sunday morning's 9 a.m. game against Hershey.
"I'm proud of them because we're doing it with six or seven kids," Jarjous said after a day that stretched from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday. "They're listening, they're running the plays. They're holding the ball when we need to hold the ball. They're having fun, and they're sticking together. It's like it's the 'Iron 7. They're buying in with what we're trying to do. They're understanding the game."
Dieruff has just one senior, no juniors and lots of freshmen and sophomores.
We've seen summer success from the Huskies before, but Jarjous is determined to set a different tone, a different framework. He will not tolerate a lack of dedication.
He has already thrown a couple of kids, starters from last year, off the team.
We'll see where this heads, but for now, Dieruff is happy to be playing on Sunday at the Stellar tournament.
