FROM KEITH GROLLER

As we've said many times, Duke Helm does a fantastic job as the District 11 football statistician.
I know I am not alone in the media in saying I look forward to his weekly reports which crunch the current numbers and puts them in context in terms of school, district and state records.
One favorite part of Duke's weekly report is the trivia questions. I admit they are way too difficult for me. This year so far, I've only known one answer -- one pertaining to Dieruff.
This week, Duke has a Whitehall High question that maybe Zephyrs fans want to take a crack at.
Here's the list of Duke's questions so far, and the answers, except for the latest one about Whitehall.
Enjoy:
Week 8 Trivia:  Saquon Barkley of Whitehall now has 20 TDs this year tying him with Mark Bonshak (1980) and Barry Buchman (1982) for 5th place all-time at Whitehall.  Name the 4 players at Whitehall who are ahead of him.

Week 7 Trivia:  Paryss Marshall of Catasauqua catches a td pass every 3 times (3.04) he catches a pass.  Name the 3 players with a minimum of 50 career receptions that have a better average.
Answer: Mark Libiano (Easton) 22 TDs on 63 catches (2.86 average), Mike Patrick (ESS) & Karl Andreas (NL) both had 17 TDs on 51 catches (3.00 avg.)
3 other players had a better average but had less than 50 career receptions.  They are, Matt Walters of ESS, 18 td's on 41 catches (2.28 avg.), Jason LaBar #2 (Bangor) 16 td's on 41 catches (2.56 avg.) and Todd Steigerwalt (Leh) 15 td's on 40 catches (2.67 avg.).

Week 6 Trivia:  Brandon Leap of Pleasant Valley has now attempted 460 passes.  What former Bear has attempted more career passes?  Phil Dorn, Trevor Micklos or Derrik Walling.
Answer: Phil Dorn (PME head coach) had 476 pass attempts in his career at Pleasant Valley.  Micklos had 445 and Walling had 443.

Week 5 Trivia: Shakur Lester of Dieruff scored 5 TDs vs Lehighton.  Who holds the Husky's school record with 6?
Answer: Dave Kurisco in 1979 vs Central Catholic.

Week 4 Trivia: Out of all the District 11 300- yard single game rushers, name the player who accomplished this with only 9 rushing attempts.  Hint: He was an NFL draft pick.
Answer:  Maurice Schleicher of Slatington rushed for an even 300 yards on nine attempts (33.3 ypc) vs Lehighton in 1954.  He was drafted in the 5th round (50th overall) by the Chicago Cardinals of the NFL.
Week 3 Trivia:  Name the 3 running backs in Allen history to rush for over 1,000 yards in a season.
Answer:  Bruce Montagner 1,041 in 1972, Jeff Ortt 1,131 in 1986 and Todd Stahlnecker 1,119 in 1993.

Week 2 Trivia:  What District 11 team has the most 4,000 yard career passers?
Answer: Pius X with 4.  Cole Hildabrant (6,991), AJ Long (6,552), Anthony Casciano (6,098), Phil Stambaugh (5,595)

Week 1 Trivia: In week 1, Shane Simpson of Easton just went over 1,000 yards receiving for his career.  Name the one school from the LVC, MVC and Colonial league that does not have a 1,000 yard career receiver.
Answer:  Bangor (career leader is Ryan Hester with 968 yards from 2009-11)
