TV NEWS SEPTEMBER 7

http://blog.sitcomsonline.com/2013/09/digital-digest-color-episodes-beverly.html

Welcome to Digital Digest! We've got a busy news week this week, and we've also got a review of Castle - The Complete Fifth Season. Let's get started!

DIGITAL NEWS

It has been a long time since we last saw The Beverly Hillbillies and Petticoat Junction on DVD, but it seems that the wait will be over soon... sort of! This week, CBS announced that both The Beverly Hillbillies - The Official Fourth Season and Petticoat Junction - The Official Third Season(the first color season for both series) are indeed coming to DVD on October 1. But in a rather unusual move (at least for CBS), these titles will be available exclusively at Walmart and Sam's Club stores. The sets will be priced at just under $20, although it is important to note that we really do not expect to see many (if any) special features on these sets. It is very likely that we'll see these sets appear elsewhere at a later date, but until then, you know where to find them starting in October!

TVShowsOnDVD.com reported late Friday that we're about to see more of The Simpsons on DVD and Blu-ray. It probably doesn't come as a huge surprise that Fox is planning a release of the series for December (as usual), but The Simpsons - The Complete Sixteenth Season will feature the entire season, a ton of special features in of a box featuring Professor Frink's head! The set will be released on December 5.

Another interesting piece of news comes from Mill Creek this week as they seem to have acquired the rights to re-release the sitcom Wings on DVD, beginning with an October 1 re-release of Wings - Seasons 1 and 2. The value-priced collection will come at a $14.98 MSRP. This release comes as a bit of a surprise since we haven't seen any studio put together value-priced re-releases of series from the CBS library, but hopefully this is just the beginning of many things to come.

That isn't all that Mill Creek has in store for October 1. They'll also continue the '80s animated series Heathcliff with Heathcliff - Season One, Volume Two. It has been a while since we've seen the series on DVD, but this 33 episode set finishes out the first season on DVD.

CBS wants fans to get caught up on the last season of their current series before the new seasons kick off, and you can do just that with their Catch Up Marathons on cbs.com. Before the new TV season starts, you can catch up on all of last season's episodes of hits including Elementary, The Good Wife, Hawaii Five-O, The Mentalist The Amazing Race, Survivor, and Undercover Boss.
