FROM KEITH GROLLER

Earlier this week, I ran a list of all of the league football champs over the past 35 years.
And when you looked at the Mountain Valley Conference list of champs over the past 10 years, you were reminded how much it has been dominated by East Stroudsburg South and Stroudsburg.
Look at this list:
2003: East Stroudsburg South; 2004: East Stroudsburg South/Pleasant Valley/Stroudsburg; 2005: East Stroudsburg South/Stroudsburg; 2006: East Stroudsburg South; 2007: Pocono Mountain West; 2008: East Stroudsburg South; 2009: East Stroudsburg South; 2010: East Stroudsburg South; 2011: Stroudsburg; 2012: Stroudsburg.
Well, it's early yet, but it looks like one of the two perennial powers will likely win the crown again.
The Cavaliers and Mountaineers, who play at Stroudsburg next week, both improved to 2-0 as did the Pocono Mountain East Cardinals.
Pleasant Valley gave up a lot of points to Dieruff, but scored a lot of points as well in collecting its first victory of the season and Allen continued to struggle to score and was blanked by Tamaqua in a nonleague game at J. Birney Crum.
The recaps, courtesy of Roger Pence and the staff:
PM East 34, ES North 8 -- The Cardinals Corey Castillon, a transfer from New York, is emerging as one of the league's biggest stars after he rushed for 160 yards and three touchdowns and also returned a kickoff 86 yards for a score as East gained revenge for a heartbreaking loss to the Timberwolves last season. Quarterback Steve Dienno was 6-for-6 in the air and the East defense was much improved from its opener against Dieruff.
Stroudsburg 13, Lehighton 6 -- Gerald Douglas had another big night with 152 yards rushing and a touchdown while quarterback Mike Nikorak threw a 23-yard TD to Joel Ozoemena as the Mounties posted a hard-fought victory over a Lehighton team that is obviously much improved. The Indians were limited to 154 yards of total offense.
ES South 27, PM West 0 -- Freshman quarterback Jake Cirillo was 8-for-12 passing for 240 yards and three scores and Niko Petrone ran for 195 yards as the Cavaliers were impressive for the second straight year. South outgained West 455-182.
Pleasant Valley 51, Dieruff 34 -- The Huskies registered their highest point total since they beat Allen 53-0 at the end of the 2008 season, but it wasn't enough as PV's Brandon Leap threw for 285 yards and six touchdowns as the Bears finally took command in the final quarter. Sophomore back Austyn Borre also ran for 159 yards on 26 carries. Dieruff got 110 yards passing and a touchdown from QB Chris Marks and two rushing TDs by Shakur Lester. However, the Huskies have now lost their last 46 games against teams other than Allen.
Tamaqua 21, Allen 0 -- The Canaries couldn't get anything going on offense and two Nate Edmonds TDs and an Evan Shilko TD run were enough to lead the Blue Raiders to their first win of the season. Julius caught eight passes for 41 yards for Allen.
So, how do the standings look after :
