Who belongs on the Eagles Mount Rushmore? How about your high school?

FROM KEITH GROLLER

This past Sunday on Groller's Corner, I mentioned the unique concept Pro Football Talk on the NBC Sports Network is using to identify a Mount Rushmore for each NFL team. They're calling it "Faces of the Franchise."
I think it's a fascinating topic -- narrowing down the history of a franchise to just four faces that represent what that particular team is all about.
And I asked the question: Who belongs on your high school's Mount Rushmore? And we've gotten a few interesting comments on that blog post along with a few that had to be immediately deleted because, as usual, some people have to act like little kids and try out their comedy routine with sophomoric material.
If you take the topic seriously, I think it's something that you can start a lot of sports bar discussions with. It's really very difficult to come up with just four when you consider the history of some of our area schools. I am interested to hear more of your comments on that.
Pro Football Talk revealed its Mount Rushmore of the Cowboys and Redskins franchises on Monday night's show and will reveal the Eagles and the Giants tonight.
The Cowboys "Mount Rushmore" according to the fan voting was Tom Landry, Roger Staubach, Emmitt Smith, and Troy Aikman. Mike Florio, one of the show's co-hosts, selected Landry, Staubach and Smith and threw in Tony Dorsett. I tend to agree more with the fans on that one.
The Redskins "Mount Rushmore according to the fan voting was Sammy Baugh, Joe Gibbs, Darrell Green and John Riggins. Florio took out Riggins and had the Hogs represented by a fan wearing a pig's nose. I would have made Sonny Jurgensen one of my faces.
When it comes to the Eagles, I'd go with Chuck Bednarik, Harold Carmichael, Wilbert Montgomery and Reggie White.
Until someone wins a Super Bowl, I don't believe a coach belongs on the Eagles Mount Rushmore, although if we're to believe what's going on South Philly these days Chip Kelly is inventing the game as we speak and is almost a lock to become not Mount Rushmore material, but maybe the greatest NFL coach of all time.
With the Giants, it is much, much harder because they've had a lot more success than the Eagles. I'd go with Bill Parcells, Lawrence Taylor, Michael Strahan and Frank Gifford. Eli Manning and Phil Simms would be in a tie for the fifth face.
We'll see what the show comes up with tonight. It's on at 5 p.m. on the NBC Sports Network, which is dial position 93 if you have Service Electric.
My favorite NFL team is the Rams and for them I'd go with Deacon Jones, who sadly, just died on Monday, Merlin Olson, Kurt Warner and Marshall Faulk. That foursome combines the greatness of the Fearsome Foursome with the most visible stars of "The Greatest Show on Turf." The problem with Warner and Faulk is that they didn't play that many years with the Rams, so some might go with a Jack Youngblood and Jackie Slater instead. As great as Jack and Jackie were, those Rams didn't win Super Bowls.
We'll see what they come up with.
Again, I give credit to a show that I would never otherwise watch for coming up with a hook to get me, and probably many others, to come on board.
