PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
NYREEF JACKSON
Freedom
In an age when everyone wants their shot and many of them, Joe Stellato had an unusual problem when it came to senior player Nyreef Jackson.Nyreef
“We’ve had to tell him to be less unselfish and be more aggressive and this year he has taken on more of a scoring role,” Stellato, the Freedom coach, said. “He has been starting for me for three years and I always knew what he was capable of. We finally got him away from thinking that he was being selfish by shooting the ball.”
Jackson has become an offensive force for the Patriots, tallying a career-high 25 points in a win over Pocono Mountain West on Monday and followed it up a night later with a 22-point effort against Allen.
“As a 6-foot-4 guard, Nyreef is a matchup problem for a lot of teams,” Stellato said. “He’s settling for a lot of jump shots. We’d like him to penetrate more and get off more shots in the paint and that’s what he’s doing.”
Stellato sees Jackson as a definite Division II prospect.
“He can create his own shot, either backing people down or fading away,” Stellato said. “He’s a definite key to our success and has worked hard for us.”
