Congrats to Michelle Steele on her field hockey post at Parkland

FROM KEITH GROLLER

I know Michelle Steele as one of the best hitters in local girls softball over the past 20 years, offering a clutch lefty bat that helped Parkland win the 1995 state championship.

But Steele, who went on to play softball at Kutztown, also made her mark in field hockey.

And now Steele has returned to Parkland as the school's field hockey coach.

She was approved by the board on Tuesday night as varsity head coach, replacing Donna Hibshman, who resigned.

According to a release, Steele is a sixth grade teacher at Springhouse Middle School and has eleven (11) years of coaching experience at various levels in the Parkland athletic program. She has served as a varsity assistant in the field hockey program, and helped the team reach the state semis in 2009.

Athletic Director Jeffrey Geisel said: “Michelle always brings a sense of purpose and a great work ethic to whatever she does. She has been an integral part of each program in which she has participated as either a player or a coach. She has a thorough understanding of what Parkland needs in order to be successful and has improved each program in which she has been involved. We expect that she will do the same with our field hockey program both on and off the field.”
