List of East Penn Conference football champs, 1976-2001, and more

FROM KEITH GROLLER

After what I posted a few days ago, some of the Groller's Corner readers requested information from the old East Penn Conference. It will take some time to compile the win-loss records for the period between 1976-1997 when most area teams were in the EPC. I do hope to do that at some point and post those numbers here. We have them, it'll just take time..

As for the EPC champions when it was at least a 10-team league (1976-97), the totals:

Dieruff 5 (2 shared)

Whitehall 5 (3 shared)

Phillipsburg 5 (3 shared)

Central Catholic 4 (0 shared) -- plus 1 more EPC title in the 5-team league from 1998-2001

Easton 4 (1 shared)

Becahi 3 (0 shared) -- plus 3 more EPC titles in the 5-team league from 1998-2001

Parkland 1 (0 shared)

Emmaus 1 (1 shared)

Remember, Phillipsburg and Northampton left the league before the mass exodus after the 1997-98 school year. And remember, Nazareth was in the Colonial League, not the the EPC during this period.

Combine all the EPC/LVC/MVC/Colonial titles of the current Lehigh Valley Conference schools from 1976-2010 -- which again features that four-year split -- and here's how they rank:

1. Easton 8 titles (3 shared)

T2. Nazareth 7 title (3 shared) --- *six titles came as a member of the Colonial League.

T2. Parkland 7 titles (1 shared);

T2. CCHS 7 titles (1 shared)

T5. Becahi 6 titles (0 shared)

T5. Whitehall 6 titles (3 shared)

T7. Dieruff 5 titles (2 shared)

T7. Phillipsburg 5 titles (3 shared)

9. Liberty 2 titles (0 shared).

T10. Northampton 1 title (1 shared)

T10. Emmaus 1 title (1 shared)

Allen and Freedom have no league titles, but Allen did win a district crown in 1992. Nazareth and Northampton were co-champs in the MVC during the period when it included mostly Monroe County teams.

Here is the year-by-year, complete list of the EPC champs, and I've also included the Mountain Valley champs from the inception of that league, and you can easily see how the former EPC (and future LVC) schools dominated in their four-year stint in the MVC.
