Whitehall QB Polony commits to Villanova

FROM KEITH GROLLER

Villanova is doing quite well in the Lehigh Valley these days.

Just over a week ago, the Wildcats' basketball program nabbed top basketball prospect Darrun Hilliard of Liberty and now a release states that Chris Polony, a quarterback at Whitehall and one of the top area recruits entering the 2010 season, will be joining the Villanova football program. The Wildcats are defending FCS (I-AA) national champs.

Polony, listed at 6-3 and 200 pounds, passed for 1,420 yards and 14 touchdowns last season. He is the son of former Allen head coach Andy Polony.

He had a great summer at various quarterback camps. He was impressive at the EA Sports Elite 11 Quarterback Camp at Ohio State in May.

He caught the eye of ESPN's Tom Luginbill, who wrote: "Polony really impressed with excellent velocity and fluid delivery mechanics. He has good height and a thick build with plenty of room for added bulk and more definition to his frame. His release stood out immediately as he was able to get rid of the ball in a hurry and he has a nice feel for dropping from center, pulling up, planting and getting the ball out on time. Polony should see his recruitment skyrocket in the fall."

Mike Farrell of Rivals.com said of Polony: "The 6-foot-3, 200-pounder looked good throwing on the run, and did a good job when asked to look off defenders and his drops were good. He went from relative unknown to the top group."

Polony was getting considerable I-A attention as well, but must have found the right fit at 'Nova, which opens its season this year against Temple on Sept. 3 and plays at Lehigh on Sept. 11.

Here's the release from Whitehall:

Whitehall High School is proud to announce that student-athlete Chris Polony has made verbal commitment to attend and play football at Villanova University starting in the Fall of 2011.

Two-sport standout Chris Polony will continue his athletic and academic career at the Villanova University. Polony will play quarterback for Head Coach Andy Talley and the Wildcats in 2011. Villanova competes in the Colonial Athletic Association and is the defending FCS National Champions.

Polony is quarterback and defensive back for the Zephyrs under Head Coach Tony Trisciani. Chris is also a forward on the basketball team.

Polony is one of the top rated quarterbacks in Pennsylvania and the 14th best senior recruit by Rivals.com. He enters his senior season with the chance to break a number of Whitehall High School passing records.
