Concert to benefit Denise Merhi's kids today in Nazareth

FROM KEITH GROLLER

I know this is primarily a sports blog, but I wanted to give a mention to a music concert today in Nazareth to benefit the two children of Denise Merhi.

It runs from 2-7 Sunday at the Jacksonian Club at 119 Main Street in Nazareth.

Tickets cost $15 (kids under 17 are free) with all proceeds going to the children of Merhi, who was murdered along with three others in Northampton on June 25.

In addition to the music there will be food, silent auctions, raffles and fun things for the kids. There is also a cash bar.

The musical acts include Trip Frogg, Ozone Riders, The Block and American Idol contestant Tyler Grady.

It's a non-smoking event.

Needless to say, what happened in Northampton was heartbreaking and just thinking about it sickens me.

However, it's heartwarming that people are rallying together and doing something to help the kids who lost a mother, grandfather, and great-grandfather -- not to mention an outstanding neighbor -- in one of the most horrific crimes I can ever remember in the Valley.

I hope the fundraiser draws a big crowd and lots of dollars are raised for the kids who suffered the kind of loss that is incomprehensible, and a tragedy that will negatively impact the rest of their lives.
