Five-time U.S. Olympic women's basketball player Teresa Edwards will be the main speaker at Moravian College's Johnston Hall at 6:30 p.m. on Weds., Dec. 4 when the Yasso/Rothrock Christmas City Classic Tip-Off Banquet is held to help tip off the 2013-14 high school basketball season.
Edwards, who was inducted into the U.S. Olympic Hall of Fame, the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame and the Naismith Hall of Fame, was a member of the USA's 1984, 1988, 1996 and 2000 gold-medal winning Olympic teams and also won the bronze at the 1992 Summer Games.
She is a four-time USA Basketball Female Athlete of the Year. She was a two-time All-American at the University of Georgia.
In 2000, Sports Illustrated placed her as 22nd of the "100 Greatest Female Athletes of the 20th Century."
She joins a long list of quality speakers at the Yasso-Rothrock banquet that includes Bob Ryan, Doug Collins, Jim Boeheim, Jeff Van Gundy, Michelle Marciniak, Mike D'Antoni and others.
Also, the 1981 Allen High state championship girls basketball team is expected to be honored that night as part of the banquet.
