Welcome to SitcomsOnline Digest! We've got a very quiet week around here as everybody seems to be taking a Christmas break, but we've got a light dosage of holiday news for you. Let's get going!
HIGHLIGHTS FROM SITCOMSONLINE.COM AND AROUND THE WEB
- What week would be complete without another TV Guide's "best of" list? This week, it is their list of the 60 greatest TV series ever (not the first ever list of this type they've ever had, but we digress). We can't help but to wonder, though, if Breaking Bad really has the staying power of being number nine. (TV Guide)
- Orange is the New Black has been a hit for Netflix, but nobody really knows how many people actually are viewing it. According to series creator Jenji Kohan, even she doesn't know exactly what the "ratings" are, just that the series is doing well. (Hollywood Reporter)
- CMT and VH-1 Classic are both showing some love for older TV series, as CMT will be bringing back The Dukes of Hazzard and VH-1 Classic will soon be airing the sitcom Coach. (SitcomsOnline)
- Earlier this week, we had an interview of Jaleel White (who will be appearing in the Lifetime movie The Wrong Woman, which premieres tonight at 8 PM ET/PT). (SitcomsOnline)
HOME MEDIA HIGHLIGHTS
- After Ellen DeGeneres first sitcom on ABC was canceled, she had a second sitcom on CBS called The Ellen Show. It ran for 13 episodes (there were also five additional unaired episodes), and Sony released them all on DVD in 2006. Now, Mill Creek will be re-releasing the series on DVD in February.
- Warner Archive is prepared to wrap up The Courtship of Eddie's Father on January 14 with The Courtship of Eddie's Father - The Complete Third Season.
- Warner Archive will follow up on January 21 with an even more rare sitcom, one that has been available on Warner Archive Instant: a DVD release of The Jimmy Stewart Show - The Complete Series.
