Washington cans Mike Shanahan
Washington Redskins general manager Bruce Allen says the team's next head coach will not have the all-encompassing role held by Mike Shanahan.
The Redskins fired Shanahan today after a 3-13 season, and Allen said he will assume the duties of having final say over the roster.
Allen says he has an "open list" as he begins the search for Shanahan's replacement, including NFL and college coaches.
Shanahan went 24-40 over four seasons in Washington and was given full control over football matters when he signed his five-year, $35 million contract in 2010.
Allen said the Redskins had too many distractions this season and that it affected the team's play.
