FROM MORNING CALL
The first day back to work and school after the New Year's Day holiday could be a snowy one, weather watchers say.
But it's too soon to predict how much snow could fall if a winter storm forms Thursday into Friday, meteorologists at the National Weather Service and AccuWeather say.
"Exact amounts, we probably won't have a good handle on that for a day or so," said Mitchell Gaines on Monday afternoon at the National Weather Service office in Mount Holly, N.J.
Paul Walker of AccuWeather in State College said that while parts of New England are sure to get snow, the storm's effect in the mid-Atlantic depends on how fast it moves into the region and the strength of a low-pressure system that will move up the eastern seaboard later this week.
