Nazareth Councilman Larry Stoudt officially entered a first-time offenders program this morning for charges heinterfered in a Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board investigation.
Stoudt appeared in Northampton County Court this morning and enrolled into the accelerated rehabilitative disposition program along with hundreds of other offenders. Before leaving, he paid $763.50 in court fines, according to court records.
Nazareth Police Chief Thomas Trachta said Stoudt, 74, approached him in May asking for his help in investigating someone who had approached the Nazareth American Legion. Stoudt believed the person was an undercover Pennsylvania State Police officer who assisted in an investigation into the Nazareth Jacksonian Democratic Club, Trachta said. The Liquor Control Board had raided the Jacksonian Democratic Club the month before, and police seized cash and gambling machines. Stoudt wanted to prevent a similar investigation into the American Legion and provided a photocopy of the person's license, police said.
