The Nazareth Area School District is completing an estimated $53,000 worth of upgrades to its high school planetarium to bring the program back next school year.
The school board in March 2012 voted to temporarily eliminate the district's planetarium program until the 2014-15 school year.
The move allowed the board three years to fund planetarium upgrades while also removing a science teacher salary through attrition from the school budget that year. The aging planetarium was built in 1972 and was refurbished in 2002.
