Bensalem pair sweeps Big Woody's slam-dunk and 3-point shooting contests at SportsFest

FROM KEITH GROLLER

No matter what happens Sunday as the single-elimination portion of the SportsFest "A-town Throwdown" plays out at Cedar Beach, Bensalem will leave Allentown with some hardware.

That's because two Bensalem players were the winners late Saturday night when the slam-dunk and 3-point shooting competition played out after the games were completed.

Davonte Newkirk, a rising senior, won the slam-dunk competition by converting one slam, but it was imrpessive as Newkirk leaped over a John Deere Gator all-terrain vehicle that was parked in the lane.

Newkirk's Bensalem teammate, Leo Vincent, won the 3-point contest by making 10 apiece in two different rounds.

The other 3-point finalists included Daquan Walker, a highly-touted rising junior from Constitution, Daiyon Barnett, a rising sophomore at Allen, and Justin Rockmore, a rising seventh-grader from Allentown who was competing for Wall2Wall.

A spirited crowd stayed around for the competition.

Sunday's final day of high school hoops begins at 9 a.m.

We'll begin providing scores here on Groller's Corner around noon.
