Becahi's Joelle Morey is a 3A first-team all-state softball selection; SV's Barry makes second team

Bethlehem Catholic's Joelle Morey was selected to the Pennsylvania High School Softball Coaches Association 3A team.

Morey was a four-time Morning Call all-area selection and this spring led the Golden Hawks to their third straight Lehigh Valley Conference championship as well as the District 11 2A title.

Morey, who is headed to Division I St. Peters, was chosen as a designated player. She was 19-3 as a pitcher with a 0.67 ERA and 146 strikeouts in 147 innings. Offensively, she batted .391 with five home runs, 12 extra-base hits and 17 RBIs. She had 25 hits in 64 at-bats.

Saucon Valley junior shortstop Arastina Barry, another Morning Call all-area selection, was selected to the 3A second team. She batted .564 with 29 runs and 33 steals in 35 attempts. She had 44 hits in 78 at-bats. She struck out just once.

Three Colonial League players were named honorable mention in 3A. They are Palisades catcher Melissa Albe, Palmerton shortstop Janel Tracy and Northern Lehigh third baseman Sophie Hankee.

Hankee and Albe were juniors this past season and Tracy was a sophomore.
