FROM THE EXPRESS TIMES
A career-high 31 points by junior guard Jim Mower wasn’t enough to give the Lafayette College men’s basketball team its first win of the season as the Leopards fell to Rider, 80-73.
With 10:22 remaining in the game, senior forward Jared Mintz made a free throw, which completed a 3-point play and gave the Leopards their first lead of the game, 61-58.
However, Lafayette (0-2) only scored 12 points the rest of the way, including a stretch in which the Leopards failed to make a field goal for over five minutes.
“They turned their defense up a little bit, we didn’t respond quite as well as we would like,” Lafayette coach Fran O’Hanlon said.
Mower, the game’s leading scorer, went 8-for-11 from beyond the 3-point arc and 11-for-15 from the field.
Ten different players scored for Rider (1-1), as the Broncs’ bench outscored Lafayette’s reserves, 37-7.
