FROM THE EXPRESS TIMES
Senior LaKeisha Wright scored a game-high 18 points and Lauren Jackson chipped in with 12 as the Lafayette College women's basketball team defeated Bryan University 84-80 in overtime at the Kirby Sports Center.
The opening game win came in the debut of new head coach Dianne Nolan, who became the fifth coach in the history of the program when she was hired in April.
"Everybody who stepped on the floor did their role today," Nolan said. "That is why we were successful."
Six players scored eight or more points in the game as the Leopards led the latter stages of the first half and the first 18 minutes of the second half before the Bulldogs surged ahead on a three-point field goal by Lindsey Hudspeth.
Lafayette guard Melissa Downey forced the extra period on a driving layup with five seconds remaining and the Leopards went 9-for-10 from the free throw line down the stretch to pull out the win.
