A previous commitment prevented me from covering the Liberty-Becahi playoff softball game late Saturday afternoon in Easton.
It must have been a doozy.
Liberty held off a late Becahi rally for a 7-6 win to win the LVC East and knock the three-time defending champion Golden Hawks out of the LVC tournament which is set to begin tomorrow night.

Navy-bound third baseman Emily Cecchini was a big force for Liberty with two hits and four RBIs, including a three-run home run in the third that gave Liberty a 3-1 lead. Alexa Scala made two great catches in center field to rob Bethlehem Catholic’s Jean Markovic and Kaelah Horwath of home runs pulling the ball back over the fence.
Liberty's win means that the matchups are now set:
It will be the Hurricanes as the No. 3 seed taking on No., 2 seed Emmaus in the first game of the doubleheader at Pates Park at 5.
And then it will be No. 4 Northampton against No. 1 and undefeated Parkland at approximately 7 p.m. in the second game.

WHITEHALL 4, CATASAUQUA 0 -- Freshman Kay Solderitch pitched a 3-hitter, Cara Bonshak had two hits. Zephs can secure District 11 playoff berth by beating Allen on Monday.

EMMAUS 3, FREEDOM 0 -- Olivia Marcks 1-hitter as pitcher, had two hits at the plate. Kelsey Brandle had lone hit for Freedom. Emily Dugan HR.
ALLEN 15, DIERUFF 7 -- Chicks had 16 hits. Abby Maressa 4-6, 3 R, 2B, 4 RBIs; Morgan Fritchman 1-5, R, 3 RBIs; Skye Kent-Suarez 2-5, R, 2 RBIs; Jozelyn Diaz 2-4, 2 R, 2B, RBI; Tamara King 2 RBIs. This one was actually played Thursday.
