Steve Carlton will be a guest on Saturday's Morning Call radio show on AM-1470

FROM KEITH GROLLER

I've been doing local sports-talk radio shows for 22 years and we've had some outstanding people as guests over the years ... the late Tug McGraw, Curt Schilling, Tommy John and Phillies announcers Tom McCarthy and Chris Wheeler and broadcasting legend Bill Campbell among them.
Plus, who could forget local icons such as soon-to-be Pro Football Hall of Famer Andre Reed and the Nasty Boys, Whitehall's very own Knobbs and Sags, among many others.
But tomorrow morning we'll have one of the most prestigious guests we've had.
Baseball Hall of Famer Steve Carlton, one of the best pitchers in baseball history, will be joining us at 10:30.
At photo at right, Carlton is pictured with his longtime batterymate Tim McCarver, McCarver's grandson and ESPN broadcaster Brent Musburger at a Phillies game in 2012.
Carlton, owner of a career record 329-244 and four Cy Young Awards, will talk about his upcoming appearance on June 21 at the 10th annual Justin Sheftel Memorial Softball Tournament.
Carlton will sign autographs, participate as a judge in the famous mocktail competition and help to put a spotlight on an event that has raised more than $175,000 in the past decade for very worthwhile causes in the name of Justin Sheftel.
He was the young man who had just graduated from Parkland in 2005 when he was killed by a drunk driver while crossing Ocean Highway in Ocean City, Md. The first memorial tournament was arranged just three weeks after Justin's death as a way to honor his life.
Carlton pitched in the big leagues from 1965 to 1988, compiling a record of 329-244 with 4,136 strikeouts -- the second most of any lefty and the fourth-most of any pitcher in baseball history.
In addition to Carlton, we hope to get an update on the state track meet in Shippensburg from Mike Blouse, and an update from Joyce Reed-Ebling on the bus trips being planned for Canton to see Reed's induction on the first weekend of August.
The show can be heard from 9 to 11 on AM-1470, the Fox, and online at fox1470.com.
