Bath manager Gene Sostarecz looking to get in line for a kidney transplant

http://www.lehighvalleylive.com/bruce-buratti/index.ssf/2012/07/bath_manager_gene_sostarecz_lo.html FROM THE EXPRESS TIMES On the surface, Gene Sostarecz looks to be in perfect health. He was a star catcher for Ray Salabsky at Freedom High School before graduating in 1986. He was a standout American Legion player at Freemansburg and he played four years in the Blue Mountain League before being forced to give up the sport he loved. That’s because Sostarecz, a Palmer Township resident, is a Type 1 diabetic. Diagnosed at age 13, he is now looking to get in line for a kidney transplant. “The doctors tell me my one kidney is at 36 percent (efficiency) and if it gets below 30, I’ll get on the (waiting) list for a transplant,” said Sostarecz, 43, whose Bath team won the Northampton County American Legion League championship for the first time in 20 years. “My wife wants me to have both kidneys transplanted, but I’m too scared to do that.”
