Northwestern wins SportsFest girls championship, beats Nazareth 44-34 in final.

http://blogs.mcall.com/groller/ FROM KEITH GROLLER Northwestern's girls basketball team had entered some previous summer Sundays feeling good, but they never ended a Sunday as happy as they did on this Sunday night Cedar Beach. The Tigers, who had not been successful on Sundays before, won their first ever SportsFest title, beating Nazareth 44-34 for the championship. Northwestern was 6-0 in the tournament, and all of the wins came against Lehigh Valley Conference foes. Rising senior Sara Jones was named the tourney MVP after scoring 13 points, 11 in the second half. Trista Cunningham had 10 points and 11 rebounds and both Sabrina Mertz and Sarah Segan chipped in eight points for the Tigers. Nazareth, which led early and was only down 15-14 at halftme, was led by Kassie Behler's 10 points, including a pair of 3-pointers in the second half. Parkland finished third in the 30-team tournament.
