Coroner names Nazareth man who jumped off Route 33 bridge into Lehigh River - UPDATE

FROM THE EXPRESS TIMES

A 47-year-old Nazareth man committed suicide this morning by jumping off the Route 33 South bridge into the Lehigh River, Pennsylvania State Police at the Belfast barracks said.

Northampton County Coroner Zachary Lysek said Jeffrey S. Correll died by suicide but the cause of his death is still under investigation.

State police said they were called at 10:31 a.m. for a report of a man sitting on the concrete barrier of the bridge with his feet dangling over the side, and then received a report the man jumped. The bridge is about 150 feet high.

Correll was found floating in the river along Bethlehem Township, Pa., by Steel City fire departments water rescue team and was pronounced dead at 11:30 a.m., police said.

Correll's car was found on an Interstate 78 West ramp with a suicide note inside, police said. Police did not say the contents of the note.

Police are still investigating and ask anyone who may have witnessed the incident to call Trooper Michael Kalinchock at 610-759-6106.
