NFL, Specifically St. Louis Rams, To Play in London for Next Three Years

The NFL will continue its commitment to playing at least one game overseas for the next five years. The league has announced that the St. Louis Rams have agreed to forfeit one of its home games each of the next three years to play in London.

Next year the Rams will “host” the New England Patriots at Wembley Satdium on October 28, 2012. The game will air on CBS at 1:00p.m. ET.

I have never been a fan of these games abroad. It disrupts the flow of preparation for the teams who participate and I see it as a way for the NFL to try to force its product overseas. The NFL will insist otherwise, but I’ve never seen a benefit to this whatsoever. I’m sure this will come up for discussion on next week’s Sports Media Weekly.
