FROM THE EXPRESS TIMES
Kevin Frandsen hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning as the Lehigh Valley IronPigs rallied for a 7-2 win over Buffalo in front of a sellout crowd of 10,000 this afternoon at Coca-Cola Park in Allentown.
With one out in the sixth, catcher Erik Kratz earned a walk for the eighth consecutive game. Pinch-hitter Matt Miller drew a full-count walk and up stepped Josh Barfield.
Barfield, who had the Pigs’ only hit in the game up to that point, hit a dribbler through the right side, plating Kratz as Lehigh Valley (13-11) cut the deficit to 2-1.
On a 1-0 count in the next at-bat, Frandsen crushed a pitch from Buffalo starter Chris Schwinden over the left field wall for a 4-2 advantage.
The Pigs, who won their third straight, added insurance runs in the seventh as Jeff Larish smacked an RBI double off the wall in left field, extending the lead to 5-2. Frandsen came up with the bases loaded and delivered a two-run single for a 7-2 lead.
Lehigh Valley starter Eddie Bonine allowed two runs on nine hits in six innings seeing what looked like a losing effort turn into a win. He improved to 2-3 on the season.
Buffalo (10-15) got on the board in the third inning.
Raul Chavez led off with a single and scored on a triple by Kirk Nieuwenhuis two batters later. The center fielder came across the plate on a base hit by Lucas Duda for a 2-0 lead.
Bisons starter Chris Schwinden (1-1) earned the loss after allowing four runs on three hits in five and a third innings.
The teams play the third game of a four-game set at 7:05 p.m. Monday. Brian Bass (1-1, 4.26) gets the ball for the Pigs against Josh Stinson (1-2, 6.43).
