FROM KEITH GROLLER
Nazareth's Sage Karam clocked a lap of 0:47.9876 and a speed of 187.548 miles per hour in practice on Friday at Pocono Raceway for Saturday's IndyLights race.
Karam's time was second to Andretti Autosports driver Carlos Munoz (0:47.9518 and 187.688 mph).
Karam put in 49 total laps, and his best lap was the 21st.
There are eight drivers in the field.
Practice resumes at 9 a.m. Saturday with qualifying set for 12:15 p.m. and the 40-lap, 100-mile race is at 4 p.m.
It was another busy day for Karam, who is getting hometown treatment from the media in the first IndyCar event at Pocono since 1989.
"Today was the first time I ever drove around Pocono, so it's all new to me, new to a lot of drivers out there," he said. "It's pretty big. It's definitely one of those tracks where you really need to be smooth."
