What to watch for:
The presence of Wyoming Seminary, ranked No. 4 in the nation as a team
by Intermat and boasting five nationally-ranked wrestlers (all national
rankings that follow by Intermat) – Jack Mueller (7th at 120), Chris
Weiler (8th at 160), Nick Reenan (4th at 170), Christian Dietrich
(9th at 182) and Michael Rogers (16th at 285) – makes the team title
something of a foregone conclusion, though Phillipsburg, led by Beast of
the East champion Brandon Paetzell
(No. 8 nationally at 113), could take a run at Seminary the way
Nazareth did last season. Other teams aiming for
best-of-show-non-Seminary division are Central Dauphin (led by Tyshawn
White, No. 2 in Pennsylvania at 120 by Pa. Power Wrestling and Zach
Elvin. No. 3 at 138 by PPW); Pennridge (led by Matt Parker, No. 1 at 106
AAA by PPW, and Kyle Gentile, No. 4 at 182); and Nazareth (led by
freshman Sammy Sasso,
No. 5 at the Beast of the East at 126). Other top wrestlers to watch
include freshman Blake Barrick of Big Spring (No. 7 at AAA 182);
Freedom’s senior Jake Young (No. 12 at AAA 182); Liberty’s sophomore KJ Fenstermacher (No. 9 AAA at 120); Northampton’s Beast runner-up Danny Moran (No. 2 AAA at 113); Saucon Valley’s Jason Lynch (5th at Beast at 170); Wyoming Valley West’s Cody Cordes (No. 6 at 170 AAA); Stroudsburg’s John Jakobsen
(No. 3 AAA at 182); and Tri-Valley’s Anthony Snyder (No. 4 AAA at 152),
one of six Tri-Valley wrestlers ranked in Class AA by PPW.
