Nazareth begins preparations for 275th anniversary event

FROM THE EXPRESS TIMES

Antique cars, floats, clowns, musicians and marchers will parade through Nazareth’s downtown area when the borough marks its 275th anniversary in 2015.

The borough’s Economic Development Committee is making plans to mark the milestone and seeks volunteers to head various groups.

"There aren't too many small towns who have avoided having their identity swallowed by suburban sprawl," said Mayor Fred Daugherty Jr. "However, Nazareth has managed to do just that. Looking ahead to celebrating 275 years seems far away now but it will be upon us before we know it."

Councilwoman Cynthia Werner, who is chairwoman of the Economic Development Committee, said people will be needed to organize food vendors, crafts and entertainment. She plans to enlist the Nazareth Cultural & Arts Commission and the borough’s Economic Development Commission for feedback on the festivities.

During last week’s workshop meeting Werner told the public a town festival also is being discussed. The festival could include a petting zoo, inflatable bounce ride, firefighter tug-of-war game, raffles, craft vendors, pie baking contest and doughnut eating contest. The borough council and mayor would speak.
