Sports Media Digest- February 9, 2012

Super Bowl XLVI Sets Hispanic Viewership Records- More viewership information continues to emerge from Super Bowl XLVI. According to the NFL, an average of 10.4 million Hispanic fans tuned in to the game. Its the second straight year over ten million Hispanics have viewed the game, and a 68% increase in Hispanic viewership over the last five years.

Former ESPN-er Wechsler Hired by NBC Sports- The NBC Sports Group today announced that it has hired Ron Wechsler as its new Vice President of Original Programming for the NBC Sports Network. Wechsler will create original programming and branded entertainment for NBC Sports Network. Wechler previously worked for ESPN, where he was Vice President, series development & production, in the ESPN Content Development unit. Most recently he developed content for ESPNU.

MLB Network’s Baseball IQ Continues Tonight- The next edition of the MLB Network’s game show Baseball IQ will continue tonight with two episodes. All contestants work for the 30 MLB clubs and are plying for charity. Tonight’s first episode airs at 9:00p.m. ET and will pit the Diamondbacks against the Reds. At 9:30p.m. ET the battle will be between the Dodgers and Rockies. Next week M:B Network will air two shows each day Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday beginning at 9:00p.m. ET with the Mets vs. Braves and Cubs vs. Nationals on Tuesday, Angels vs. Mariners and a representstive of the Hall of Fame vs. the Twins on Wednesday, and Red Sox vs. Rays and Royals White Sox on Thursday.

CBS Sports Network College Hoops for the Weekend- CBS College Sports Network will have three college basketball games Saturday and one on Sunday. Army-Navy will conduct a doubleheader Saturday in West Point, N.Y. Bob Socci and Leah Secondo handle the call for the women’s game at 12:00P.m. ET, while Vince Curran joins Socci to announce the men’s match at 2:30p.m. ET. The day will end with a Mountain West contest between Boise State and Air Force at 9:00p.m. ET. James Bates and Steve Lappas have the call. Sunday at 12:00p.m. ET Don Criqui and Mike Gminski will call the American East match-up between Stoney Brook and Vermont.

Two College Hoops Games on CBS This Weekend- CBS will have a pair of college hoops games this weekend, one on Saturday and one on Sunday. Verne Lundquist and Clark Kellogg will call the Big East game Saturday between # 2-ranked Syracuse and Connecticut at 1:00p.m. ET. On Sunday Kevin Harlan and Bill Raftery will be on site for the Big Ten match-up between #22 Michigan and Illinois, also at 1:00p.m. ET.

CBS Covers AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am Saturday and Sunday- Following college basketball on Saturday and Sunday CBS Sports will have live coverage of the PGA Tour’s AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. Jim Nantz will anchor the action, which begins both days at 3:00p.m. ET.
