THE AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF UNIVERSITY WOMEN, Allentown Branch, offers a scholarship program for Lehigh Valley women returning to local colleges after an interruption of studies. Applications and instructions are available at financial aid offices of local colleges and AAUW Allentown's website: http://www.aauwallentownpa.org. The Allentown Chapter of AAUW raised $20,000 at its fall used book sale to fund these scholarships. In 2011, eighteen women received awards to Lehigh Valley colleges. Applications will be screened in March and final applicants interviewed April 15 and 16. Applications are due Feb. 20 and may be sent to AAUW-Allentown Community Awards, 1160-G S. THE LEHIGH GAP NATURE CENTER, located at Lehigh Gap between Slatington and Palmerton, needs volunteers for its 16th annual Lehigh Gap Area Feeder Watch on Friday, and Saturday, Feb. 18 and Feb. 19. Last year, 74 volunteers participated in the survey and sighted over 4,000 birds of 41 different species. The survey is conducted by volunteers who live approximately within a 15-mile radius of Lehigh Gap. Anyone in that geographic area with one or more bird feeders in their yard, and who can identify the individual species of birds that visit the feeders, is invited to participate. LEHIGH TOWNSHIP RAILS TO TRAILS invites Moore Township residents who enjoy walking and riding on local rail-trails to join its group. The organization's goal is to develop a trail across Lehigh Township. At the west end, it could join with trails in Walnutport and Slatington. At the east end, it could join with trails in Moore Township. Interested individuals are invited to attend one of the group's meetings, which are held at 7 p.m. on the third Wednesday of each month at Lehigh Township Municipal Building on Municipal Drive. BETHLEHEM AREA PUBLIC LIBRARY, 11 W. Church St., will host a Literary Speed Dating program for single adults in their 20s and 30s, 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday. Participants will be assigned a number and have four minutes to chat with a potential date. Participants will then write down the phone number of individuals with whom they feel a personal connection. A match is made when both people write down each other's contact information. MORAVIAN HISTORICAL SOCIETY, 214 E. Center St., Nazareth, will hold its eighth annual Moravian and Victorian tea party, "Little Dolls, and a Little Tea," Feb. 18. Seatings are at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. in the Whitefield House. The elegant formal tea is for girls (ages 5 and older), their friends, family and dolls. Hosts in period dress will serve hot tea and other beverages, as well as savories and sweets from the Moravian and Victorian eras. Participants will create crafts, receive tea cups to take home, and get a behind-the-scenes look at the museum's doll collection. The cost is $30.
