CENTRAL GIRLS WILL PLAY SATURDAY AT 2:30PM!

FROM THE MORNING CALL

The Central Catholic girls basketball team will travel to Spring-Ford High School in Royersford for its PIAA Class 3A quarterfinal game Saturday.

The Vikettes will face Archbishop Wood in a 2:30 p.m. game. They will be preceded by a Class 4A boys quarterfinal between Penn Wood, the state runner-up a year ago, and Council Rock North, which ended Liberty's season Wednesday night.

For more on District 12 champion Archbishop Wood's second-round win over Holy Redeemer, check out Todd Thorpe's story from www.Phillyburbs.com. A recap of Central Catholic's 41-28 win over Villa Maria Academy is here.

Central Catholic is seeking its first berth in the state semifinals since 2006, when it went to the title game. Archbishop Wood is the defending state champion and also won the Philadelphia Catholic League title this year.

Tamaqua, which beat Central Catholic in the District 11 Class 3A final, saw it season end Tuesday with a 52-46 loss to District 3 champion Oley Valley. The result did not arrive in time for Thursday's newspaper.
