Whitehall stays within for new baseball coach

FROM THE MORNING CALL

The Whitehall-Coplay School District announced Monday night the approval of Shaun O'Boyle as the new head baseball coach at Whitehall.

O'Boyle has been an assistant baseball coach under former Head Coach Andy Simock at Whitehall for the past seven seasons. He has also coached within the Coplay Legion organization, coaching many current and former Zephyrs.

O'Boyle played his college baseball at Alvernia, where he was an all-league second baseman. He is a Whitehall graduate of 1988. While at Whitehall, O'Boyle excelled in football and baseball.

Whitehall HS Athletic Director Bob Hartman said of O'Boyle: "Over the past seven baseball seasons, he has proven to a very good baseball coach. His passion and dedication to Whitehall baseball has continually come to the forefront. We, as a committee, felt that Shaun had the right combination of pride, knowledge, and professionalism to make him the right fit. His preparation and thoroughness in seeking out this position was first rate."

"This is a guy who doesn't want to be anywhere but Whitehall and wants to be the man to help Whitehall build upon its past baseball successes. He is going to re-invigorate our program by doing the right things for our student-athletes. His plans and goals are well-thought out, set at a high level, and attainable. "

"It was clear that Shaun didn't just apply for this baseball job on a whim. Shaun spent a large amount of time thinking about how he can best help this program, the preparation involved, and the ideas needed to improve and make us better."

"We are very excited to have Coach O'Boyle and his staff join our Whitehall athletics family."
