Heavy rains forecast for late Thursday afternoon into evening

A Nor'easter will bring drenching, gusty, even damaging thunderstorms into the coastal mid-Atlantic into early evening today, according to AccuWeather.com.

Cape May, N.J., Rehoboth Beach, Del., Salisbury, Md., Norfolk, Va. and Wilmington, N.C. are the coastal cities that will be most affected, according to AccuWeather.


The strongest thunderstorms will unleash torrential rain capable of causing flash flooding. High winds bring the danger of downed trees and power lines and tornadoes are a possibility, according to AccuWeather.

The storms are fast moving are expected to hit during rush hour in portions of New Jersey, Long Island and the New York City area.

Rain is forecast for the Lehigh Valley beginning early this afternoon and getting heavier in late afternoon. A half inch of rain is forecast for the region for today with a few showers and high winds forecast for Friday.
