'PIGS DIG EARLY HOLE IN 7-4 SETBACK

FROM THE IRONPIGS WEBSITE

IronPigs OF Rich Thompson goes 4-for-5 with two doubles, a home run, two RBI and a run scored in the loss.
The Rochester Red Wings rode a four-run first inning to a 7-4 win Monday afternoon over the Lehigh Valley IronPigs at Frontier Field in Rochester, NY.

D’Angelo Jimenez did the majority of the damage in the first, clearing the bases with a three-run double off the base of the center field wall against IronPigs starter Drew Carpenter. An Ozzie Chavez error with the infield pulled in allowed Jimenez to score two batters later as the Wings jumped out to the early 4-1 lead and would not look back.

Carpenter was able to wriggle out of a bases-loaded, no out jam in the second thanks to a nice double play turned by Andy Tracy, who back-handed a grounder by Jimenez behind the first base bag and in one motion stepped on the bag and threw home to nab catcher Danny Lehmann at the plate to end the inning.

However, the IronPigs right-hander lasted just four innings, allowing five runs on seven hits and three walks as he suffered his 10th loss of the season.

A walk from reliever Brian Gordon and an error by third-baseman Cody Ransom both came around to score in the seventh inning as the Red Wings built a 7-2 lead after seven.

Rich Thompson got the IronPigs off to a quick start, breaking an 0-for-22 spell at the plate with a double to dead center field to lead off the game. John Mayberry Jr. would score Thompson and extend his hit streak to 12 games in the process with an RBI single as the ‘Pigs took a 1-0 lead after a half inning.

In the fifth, Thompson yanked a 2-1 pitch from Wings starter Anthony Swarzak over the right field fence and out of the reach of the right fielder Dustin Martin, who robbed Thompson of a home run on Sunday. The homer, Thomspon's third with the ‘Pigs this season and first in his last 104 at bats, trimmed the lead to 5-2. The IronPigs lead-off man would finish the day 4-for-5 with two RBI and nine total bases, tying an IronPigs season high.

The IronPigs will enjoy a rare off day Tuesday before opening a four-game, three-day series against Pawtucket on Wednesday with a doubleheader at McCoy Stadium. RHP Ty Taubenheim (0-2, 6.06) will go in game one for Lehigh Valley with RHP Vance Worley (0-2, 4.32) slated to get the nod in the nightcap for the ‘Pigs.

The Voice of the IronPigs, Matt Provence, will rejoin the team and radio partner Jon Schaeffer in Pawtucket after the birth of his second child on Thursday. The duo will have the call beginning at 5:05 p.m. for the AT&T Pre-Game Show on the IronPigs Radio Network, ESPN Radio 1230-1320 AM.
