PHILADELPHIA — The NCAA has March Madness.
The Phillies have August Angst.
For the third night in a row, the NL East leading Braves lost, giving the Phillies a chance to gain ground.
But the Phillies blew it by losing for the third consecutive night. With former Phillie J.A. Happ on the mound for Houston on Wednesday, the Phillies dropped a 3-2 decision at Citizens Bank Park.
The loss ended Roy Halladay's string of six straight wins, and kept the Phillies two games in back of the Braves. Had Philadelphia won its last three games, they would go into Thursday's day game with a one-game lead in the division.
The Phillies had the tying run on first base in the ninth, but pinch-hitter Dom Brown struck out swinging to end the game.
The Astros got two runs on solo home runs and their final run came on Humberto Quintero's RBI double in the seventh.
Jayson Werth hit a solo homer for the Phillies' first run. Placido Polanco tied the game at 2 in the sixth with his RBI double.
The Phillies have now scored two or fewer runs in six of their last seven games.
