Pius X High School prevails in District 11 Class A baseball final

Senior Anthony Casciano pitched five shutout innings to propel Pius X High School to a 3-1 win over Notre Dame-East Stroudsburg in today's District 11 Class A baseball championship game at Coca-Cola Park in Allentown.

The title is the first in coach Anthony Casciano's 18 seasons at Pius X and the first in the program's history. The Royals lost 15-9 to Williams Valley in last year's final.

Justin Mazza stroked a first-inning double, stole third and scored on an error to provide the Royals with their first run. Pius X took advantage of two errors by the Spartans in the sixth inning to open a 3-0 lead. Scott Douglas contributed an RBI single.

Vinnie Trivett ripped two doubles for Pius X (15-5), which advances to play the District 4 champion in Monday's PIAA first round at a site and time to be determined.
